Сообщается, что поводом для расследования послужили участие оппозиционных политиков, общественных деятелей и деятелей искусства в съезде Социалистического интернационала (Социнтерн) в Колумбии в 2017 году.
Как отмечает газета Hürriyet, поводом для расследования послужило то, что бывший сопредседатель Партии демократического единства (PYD) Салих Муслим также присутствовал на той встрече и выступил с речью.
Заявление о возбуждении уголовного дела против Муслима, Кылычдароглу, Узюмджю и ряда депутатов НРП и ДПН подал некий C.Ч. 31 декабря 2019 года.
