Прошлогоднее высказывание Эрдогана о статусе собора Айя-Софии вспомнили пользователи. Напомним, указом президента Турции собор-музей Айя-София в Стамбуле получил статус мечети, в которой мусульманам разрешено исполнять поклонение. Новая мечеть вошла под управление Диянета (управление по делам религии).
Примечательно, что незадолго до муниципальных выборов 31 март 2019 года Эрдоган выступал против смены статуса Айя-Софии.
«В определенной части Айя-Софии намазы уже совершаются. Для нас не проблема преодолеть их, но какой будет отдача? Давайте не будем забывать, что цена за это может быть тяжелой. У нас тысячи мечетей в разных странах мира. Думают ли требующие смены статуса о том, что произойдет с этими мечетями? В настоящее время совершаются поджоги, много чего творится. Они говорят это, но не думают и не рассчитывают. Извините, они не знают, как устроен мир. Они не знают с кем имеют дело. Как политический лидер, я не потерял своей позиции, чтобы быть втянутым в эти игры», – сказал тогда Эрдоган в прямом эфире одного из турецких телеканалов.
