Юсуф Бекмезджи известный турецкий благотворитель и предприниматель. После попытки переворота 15 июля 2016 года суд объявил его в розыск. Примечательно, что всё это время Бекмезджи проживал в Измире.
Сообщается, что Юсуф Бекмезджи страдает болезнью Альцгеймера, борется с повышенным давлением и остеоклазией. Несмотря на проблемы со здоровьем пожилого мужчину поместили под стражу и отправили в тюрьму.
Суд постановил конфисковать все имущество Бекмезджи. На слушании мужчина рассказал, что в прошлом открыл с Фетхуллахом Гюленом курсы по обучению Корана.
«Люблю и уважаю Фетхуллаха Гюлена. Я не могу назвать его террористом, потому что не видел никакой террористической деятельности с его стороны», – заявил Бекмезджи.
