Неудачные переговоры между профсоюзами металлургов и Ассоциацией работодателей металлургической промышленности (MESS) тянутся уже больше двух лет, отмечает solidarnost.org. Последнее предложение от работодателей было отвергнуто профсоюзами 11 – 12 января, и теперь в забастовке профобъединения видят единственный способ достичь цели. Согласия нет по вопросу о повышении зарплат.
Как сообщает Marxist.com, профсоюзы требовали повышения зарплат на уровне между 27 и 34%, чтобы надбавки не только перекрывали инфляцию за два прошедших в переговорах года, но и улучшили уровень жизни работников. MESS не предложил больше 10-процентного повышения. Закон о профсоюзах и коллективном трудовом договоре гласит, что законные стачки могут быть приостановлены Советом министров на 60 дней в виду угрозы здравоохранению и национальной безопасности. Однако турецкое правительство часто использует этот закон, чтобы запрещать забастовки в принципе, что противоречит Конвенции № 87 МОТ. Турецкие профсоюзы неоднократно закрывали глаза на запреты властей и даже выигрывали от этого.
