Её муж, который содержался под стражей 37 дней, также был помещен в тюрьму Кандыра в тот же день, поскольку его приговор был оставлен в силе Верховным судом.
Эсра Чичекдаг была отправлена в тюрьму 10 ноября 2021 года вместе со своими двумя детьми, одному из которых 6 месяцев, а другом 4 года.
О заключении в тюрьму семью Чичекдаг сообщил через Твиттер депутат парламента от ДПН и правозащитник Омер Фарук Гергерлиоглу. По его словам во время чрезвычайного положения пострадали тысячи матерей и детей.
